Sirens and Moles

" Sirens and Moles "

by Suzán Jiván

Performed on YouTube
as, " Northern Temperate Zones "

Northern temperate zones
like sirens and moles
with distinct body regions
capped with packets of sperm
displayed in wide-ranging
layers of jellylike eggs
lost during transformation
yelping when captured
and squirming vigorously
when handled
Nestling in winter waiting for spring
in sheltered cavities emitting clicks
after wrestling in opportunistic litter
threatened by red underbellies
and swelling vents in defense December through May cave
dwelling lined with fleshy projections
on stream beds of detritus poorly known as predacious to incubating eggs tipped with black horny layers
Swept into the water by heavy rains
bypassing the tadpole stage
of yellowish flecks
over clear heads and necks
along with conspicuous tympanums
of warm moist skin hatching
into tail-wagging species
in swiftly flowing streams
Erupting like bubbles in tar pits
of hardship and foul-mouthed grit
given heady physicality
like gliding down an 80-foot wave
while dilating the entire length...
